Diaper Rash Remedy
Overview
Symptoms
You may notice the following in your child's diaper area:
Diaper rashes usually do NOT spread beyond the edge of the diaper.
- Bright red rash that gets bigger
- Fiery red and scaly areas on the scrotum and penis in boys
- Red or scaly areas on the labia and vagina in girls
- Pimples, blisters, ulcers, large bumps, or pus-filled sores
- Smaller red patches (called satellite lesions) that grow and blend in with the other patches
Diaper rashes usually do NOT spread beyond the edge of the diaper.
The best treatment for a diaper rash is to keep the diaper area clean and dry. This will also help prevent new diaper rashes.
- Always wash your hands after changing a diaper
- Ask your doctor if a diaper rash cream would be helpful. Zinc oxide or petroleum jelly-based products help keep moisture away from baby's skin when applied to completely clean, dry skin
- Avoid using wipes that have alcohol or perfume. They may dry out or irritate the skin more
- Do NOT use corn starch on your baby's bottom. It can make a yeast diaper rash worse
- Do NOT use talc (talcum powder). It can get into your baby's lungs
- Change your baby's diaper often, and as soon as possible after the baby urinates or passes stool
- Lay your baby on a towel without a diaper on whenever possible. The more time the baby can be kept out of a diaper, the better
- Pat the area dry or allow to air-dry
- Put diapers on loosely. Diapers that are too tight don't allow enough air and may rub and irritate the baby's waist or thighs
- Use water and a soft cloth or cotton ball to gently clean the diaper area with every diaper change. Avoid rubbing or scrubbin the area. A squirt bottle of water may be used for sensitive areas
- Using highly absorbent diapers helps keep the skin dry and reduces the chance of getting an infection
Diaper rashes are common in babies between 4 and 15 months old. They may be noticed more when babies begin to eat solid foods.
Diaper rashes caused by infection with a yeast or fungus called Candida are very common in children. Candida is found everywhere in the environment. It grows best in warm, moist places, such as under a diaper. A yeast-related diaper rash is more likely to occur in babies who:
- Are not kept clean and dry
- Are taking antibiotics, or whose mothers are taking antibiotics while breast feeding
- Have more frequent stools
- Acids in the stool (seen more often when the child has diarrhea)
- Ammonia (produced when bacteria break down urine)
- Diapers that are too tight or rub the skin
- Reactions to soaps and other products used to clean cloth diapers
- Too much moisture

Certain Dri Giveaway
While you may feel that excessive underarm perspiration is your problem, alone, there are millions of people --women and men, of all ages and races -- who suffer from this condition, known as axillary hyperhidrosis. Perhaps the embarrassment causes you to worry about body odor, avoid certain social situations, to alter your clothing selections or to avoid settings that you know will cause excessive perspiration.
Now, with Certain Dri® Anti-Perspirant with New! 72 Hour Protection from excessive underarm sweating, also available in new solid application and new Certain Dri A.M.™ Underarm Refresher – The Certain Dri® Protection System™– you can raise your arms again...with confidence. Make certain you're dry... with Certain Dri®.
Plus, Certain Dri® is taking it a step further, literally, by introducing new Certain Dri® FEET Moisture Control Pads and Certain Dri® FEET Microsponge® Powder. When used together as the Certain Dri® Feet Protection System, the two, new products offer maximized results for controlling foot perspiration and odor. Click here to learn more about the Certain Dri® FEET Products.
Antiperspirants are the choice for controlling wetness, since the most common active ingredients, aluminum compounds, block the pores to inhibit the release of sweat and help absorb odor-causing moisture. However, for people have been diagnosed with axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the underarms) or who feel that they suffer from excessive perspiration on a regular basis or occasionally, due to stress, occupation, etc.
Certain Dri Anti-Perspirant is available with 12 percent aluminum chloride, the active ingredient used in prescription anti-perspirants. Because Certain Dri® is water-based (vs. alcohol-based like its prescription competitors), it is available without a doctor’s prescription.
Certain Dri® Solid Anti-Perspirant
- Created specifically to complete the line of Certain Dri antiperspirant products for those who want the same 72-hour protection from excessive underarm perspiration in a solid application.
- The product is specially-formulated to provide everyday, all-day dryness for those who suffer from excessive underarm perspiration.
- Certain Dri® Solid Anti-Perspirant contains 25% aluminum sesquichlorohydrate (Anhydrous). It is the only over-the-counter antiperspirant with this ingredient, which is more effective than the aluminum zirconium formula found in over-the-counter solid antiperspirants that are labeled “clinical strength.”

10 Best Speedy Hair and Makeup Tricks
Got a need for speed? Here, we look back at the top quick beauty tips over the years -- that still work today.
WebMD Feature from "Marie Claire" Magazine
- Get clean skin quick. To sop up oil and refresh makeup, lightly mist your face with toner, then pat with a tissue, says Eva Scrivo, makeup artist and owner of the eponymous New York City salon. Finish with a dusting of loose powder.
- Lighten locks instantly. If scalp grease (or too many products) have left your light hair looking like dirty dishwater, sprinkle translucent powder over your roots, then brush through, says makeup artist Morgen Schick.
- Hydrate your skin in half the time. Use conditioner to moisturize your hair -- and body, says Schick. Just massage it in neck-to-toe in the shower, rinse and dry off. The conditioner will hydrate nearly as well as body lotion -- without the time suck of waiting for it to sink in.
- Get gorgeous nails, now. Schick's 60-second strategy: Remove all polish, clean under your nails (with lemon juice, if you have it) and massage the thickest lotion you can find (lip balm will suffice in a pinch) into your cuticles.
- Use pink to fake perfect skin. Surprise! Concealer is only half the battle when it comes to fixing flaws. To really perfect your complexion (no matter what your skin tone), try wearing lipstick in a warm pink. "It distracts people's eyes from blemishes and other imperfections," says Schick.
- Depuff your Do in a flash. To flatten frizz, dampen your hands with water and a drop of hand lotion, then gently pull your hair back into a French twist. Wait 10 minutes; take your strands down. VoilĂ -- fuzz free!
- Focus on the front to speed hairstyling. When you're strapped for time, do the T-zone blow-dry: down your part and around your hairline only. "As long as the front and top of your hair looks finished," says Scrivo, "so will you."
- Score evening eyes in just one step. Eyeliner is the fastest way to look sexy, says Delux Beauty creator Jillian Dempsey. To do: Trace your top lash lines to just past the outer corners of your eyes.
- Pull it together with a Ponytail. There's nothing wrong with resorting to a ponytail -- after all, it's the ultimate easy style. To do: Pull your hair back haphazardly with your fingers and spritz with hairspray, says Roy Teeluck, owner of the Roy Teeluck Salon in New York City. Last, twist a stray tendril around your hair elastic; pin.
- Revive your face rapidly. There's nothing wrong with resorting to a ponytail -- after all, it's the ultimate easy style. To do: Pull your hair back haphazardly with your fingers and spritz with hairspray, says Roy Teeluck, owner of the Roy Teeluck Salon in New York City. 10 Best Make Up Secrets Revealed
Want to look like you just stepped out of a beauty salon — every day? Uncover the industry's ten best makeup secrets (plus one bonus tip).
Makeup artists have a few tricks up their sleeves when it comes to creating beautiful looks for women. For Vincent Longo, makeup artist and creative director of Vincent Longo Cosmetics, his best-kept secret comes from the red carpet. "When doing makeup for celebrities before big events, I always make sure to stain the cheeks and lips before applying the foundation," he says. "So if their makeup wears off during the night, the stained cheeks and lips will continue to glow from underneath." It's a foolproof beauty back-up plan!
Now here are ten more makeup secrets, revealed.
- A Fresh Face — Resist the urge to powder your face every time you refresh your makeup — the result will look cakey. Instead, use blotting papers to keep makeup intact as you remove excess moisture.
- Choosing a Concealer — Follow this rule of thumb when picking the right concealer for your skin's undertones: If your skin tends to be ruddy (reddish), use a green color corrective stick; if you have a sallow (yellow) complexion, look for a concealer in shades of lilac or pink. Olive or darker skin tones need a peachy or apricot concealer.
- A Natural Flush — Cream blushes and cheek stains will give your face a rosy glow that looks natural. Use your fingertips to blend the product into the apples of your cheeks in a circular motion. Note that peaches and golden hues look beautiful on fairer complexions; coral shades look best on medium skin tones; and mauves and burgundies are most flattering on darker complexions.
- Defined Cheekbones — Use this simple contouring trick: After applying blush or bronzer to your face, lightly swipe a highlighting powder (a frosted off-white eye shadow will work!) on your cheekbones just above and below the color you've applied. This creates an instant face-flattering effect!
- Being a Bronzed Beauty — Fake a bake by sweeping golden brown bronzing powder along your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. A powder with light-reflective pigment will give an "airbrushed" glow. Just be careful not to go too dark for your natural skin tone.
- Subtle, Sexy Eyes — Smoky eyes aren't for everyone. If you're fair skinned, the look can be too much. Instead, opt for nude eye shadow (flattering on everyone!) or a pale gold on lids and gray, not black, eyeliner.
- Perfectly Lined Lids — Unsteady hands can make it a challenge to apply liquid eyeliner. To ensure a smooth line, apply your eyeliner by painting little dots along your lash line, as close to the lashes as possible, then connect the dots. Easy!
- Long, Lush Lashes — The key to lashes with tons of length and fullness is to use two types of mascara. Start with a lengthening mascara (bristles are close together to better grip lashes and spread the product from base to tip), then follow up with a thickening mascara, which has dense bristles to build volume.
- Fabulously Full Lips — To plump up thin lips, exfoliate once a week to stimulate blood flow. Try a lip scrub or just use a moistened toothbrush to gently slough your lips. Then apply clear gloss to the center of your bottom lips — this helps reflect the light to make your pout pop even more.
- Lip Color With Staying Power — If you want your lip color to last all day, apply lipstick with a lip brush, and then add a coat of translucent powder to set the color. Repeat this once or twice and you can be sure your radiant red lips won't budge.
